I have a scenario in which I would be interested in different perspectives from other breeders. I have a ram who had two rams in 2018. They are of breeding age, now. Their names are Oliver and Simon. I have 4 ewes(one of which is the mother of the Simon) . I am trying to determine if I should let my head hancho breeding ram, Rambo (I know, “original”, right) breed the 4 mature ewes or should I split the herd and let the 2018 rams breed different (non-related) ewes? I know this may change some of the dynamics within the herd. I was wanting experienced advice on this. Could you include pros and cons from a genetics perspective and group dynamic perspective?

I certainly would like to know too. It seems to be fine. It has the fathers genes. I wonder about ram and ewe by the same father.

We recently added a coefficient of inbreeding calculator on the NABSSAR website. www.nabssar.org/coi_calculator.php There are also links to two articles with some good information. If it were me, I would take the time to input the information on the different sheep and prospective pairings and go from there.
